Movie Review Page

This page has reviews on some of the latest films and videos. This may seem a bit out of date compared to American cinemas, but the English get these films later, and some of these videos may even be a few years old.

Marks are given for each film by giving it a number of ball. 5 means that it is good and 1 means that it is rubbish. 3 is average.

Twister (PG):

Twister is the story of a group of scientists who are fascinated with tornadoes (twisters). It follows their exploits as they try to be the first people to launch a special probe into a twister. Their rival is an ex-member of their team, gone over to corporate funding.

The story is very predictable and there is no real excitement throughout the film. As with any film like this, we know that there will be a disaster and that the dog will live. The only redeeming feature is the fact that the special effects are brilliant, making the twister effect look amazing.

Ransom (15):

This is the story of a buisness man who has his son kidnapped. The kidnappers offer to give him back for 2 million dollars. The FBI enter and the whole thing starts to wrong. Eventually he offers the money as a reward. (No spoilers – This is all shown on the adverts).

The story is very good and the acting is excellent. The suspense is also brilliant and the plot is in no way predictable.

The Star Wars Trilogy (Special Edition) (U/PG):

Do I really need to explain the story? Well, if for some reason you haven’t seen it (!), it is about Luke Skywalker, a young farmer who suddenly finds himself on an adventure to save a princess captured by the evil Darth Vader and held on a huge battle station. The story follows through to Return of The Jedi where Luke has to face the evil Emperor Palpatine.

This is THE science fiction trilogy. Star Wars stands on it’s own as excellent and both Empire and Jedi are brilliant. If you haven’t seen it, then you have missed out on the best Sci-Fi trilogy ever. See my Links Page for some great Star Wars sites!
